Providing information about the device, ERU Medical Oncology Department Faculty Member and Nazende-Nuri Özkaya Oncology Day Treatment Center Coordinator Prof. Dr. Metin Özkan said that thanks to the ‘hair loss preventing device’ newly arrived at the Center, they started to provide a service that they were satisfied with to patients who suffered hair loss due to chemotherapy.

“There is more hair loss in breast cancer”

Stating that the ‘red medicine’ used in the treatment of breast cancer intensifies hair loss, Prof. Dr. Metin Özkan, “As it is known, breast cancer is mostly seen in women. Our female patients prefer this device more.” said.

Not effective on eyebrows

Noting that the device is only effective on hair, Prof. Dr. Metin Özkan gave the following information about the working principle of the device:

“Inside the apparatus, there is a cap that runs through the water channels. This cap is put on the person’s head. When the device is turned on, the water passing through these channels cools down to minus 5 degrees. It is worn half an hour before chemotherapy, it is stuck during the chemotherapy period, it remains attached again in half an hour after chemotherapy. This system cools the scalp, allowing less amount of the drug to enter the skin and partially preventing hair loss. Its success is not 100 percent, it does not provide an effective success in every patient, but it significantly reduces hair loss. ” – KAYSERİ
