I was diagnosed with breast cancer in mid-April, less than a year after moving to Dubai from Toronto for work. I had surgery at the end of April which was interesting given the pandemic protocols in place in the hospitals here. Three months of grueling chemotherapy followed during which the Paxman cooling cap became a lifeline. The retention of about 70% of my hair is a symbol of defiance in the face of cancer and COVID

Scalp cooling made the difference in a difficult journey. To go through chemotherapy while looking like “normal” made a huge impact in helping me stay positive and focused on getting healthy.

I did not want to go through the physical and emotional pain of hair loss again. So I said YES, l wanted to try it. In fact my hair has grown considerably. People are amazed and I don’t feel labelled as a cancer patient. Having my hair throughout and after this chemo is more comforting than I ever expected.

Knowing that losing my hair was a possibility from chemotherapy was devastating to me. No, my hair did not define me, or make me who I am, but I felt that cancer had already taken enough from me and I wasn't going to let it take my hair with it. I never felt sick and didn’t want to look that way. It made me more confident and helped with keeping a positive mindset. I went to work everyday and carried out my normal life routine without anyone knowing I was undergoing chemotherapy.

I can honestly say my experience with the paxman cooling has been amazing... I have advised other ladies into using it too!! I feel so passionate about getting awareness out there about scalp cooling as I am proof that it can work! I was able to still look like me all the way through this horrendous journey and I could keep my illness private, I didn’t want to be seen as a cancer victim especially in front of my children...

When I originally reached out to one of the nurses at the clinic to start the process of procuring a cap, I was answered with “we don’t normally advise cold capping/see success for someone with your kind of chemotherapy.” Well, I’d like to say that we (Paxman and me!) proved her wrong. I would highly recommend this therapy to everyone in need, even those with harsh chemotherapies

For me keeping my hair during treatment was such a big part of feeling normal, or at least pretending. I could do my hair and makeup and put on a brave face. I don’t even want to think how I would’ve felt without hair or with a wig. I was able to regularly stay in touch with work colleagues, friends and family and although I felt vulnerable I am certain that keeping my hair gave me some confidence to keep getting out and seeing people.

I was extremely happy with my Paxman Scalp Cooling experience and it was amazing to keep most of my hair! I have an 11-year-old son and worked full time throughout my chemotherapy treatment so being able to keep my hair helped me look better than I actually felt.

It's great that my hair doesn't leave me. My 2-year-old daughter did not notice that I have cancer or any other problem. I am writing this special comment to thank both for the wonderful PAXMAN and for my dear doctor.

Retaining my hair gave me such a confidence boost and I never had to wear my wig. During treatment I took up the position of Examinations Invigilator at a local school and to have my hair, was amazing - I was able to walk amongst the students with confidence.

We had the most wonderful message from Carol, that she wanted us to share with you all. Hi all, I’m Carol Wilde, a breast cancer patient having cold cap treatment for the first time at the Christie today. Don’t believe all the horror stories ladies, this treatment is very bearable, no pain whatsoever, just a bit cold for a few minutes the all settles down in no time, a little sniff of lavender oil beforehand certainly helped, nothing to be frightened of at all. Good luck to you all Sending you all our best wishes Carol

For me scalp cooling made a tremendous difference in my self-esteem. As a mother of 3 children I wanted to look healthy and to decrease the impact on their daily lives. As an Occupational Therapist working in an elementary school, I really was able to keep continuing my work with students without daily questions about my appearance. Some of my students would not have been able to understand what was happening and it could have been very distracting for them. I would absolutely recommend anyone give scalp cooling a try. It truly helped me feel like myself
